Optimism, Pessimism, Nihilism, Works!

the 2012 Works member exhibition open through November 17

More than 50 artists have come together to help Works celebrate 35 years of surviving and thriving in San José with the non-juried member exhibition Optimism, Pessimism, Nihilism, Works! Ranging from the most established area artists to the newest of newcomers, this exhibition displays the intense range of our art community.

Opening Reception: First Friday, November 2, 7pm to 10pm
on view through November 17

Closing party for members and friends of Works:
Saturday, November 17, 6 to 8pm, please RSVP to attend!

Come to the Closing Party and Annual Members and Friends Gathering for an update on Works after 35 years, preview exhibitions ahead, enjoy refreshments, and get a look at our newly installed lighting system—that your support helped to build! Artists are encouraged to pick up work from the member exhibit at the party. Please RSVP to above or email to attend.


CALL FOR ART: the member exhibition!

YOU are the NEXT exhibition!

EVERYONE (become a member if you are not already!) is invited to participate in the 2012 members’ exhibition at Works/San José, your community art and performance center. The exhibition, entitled Optimism, Pessimism, Nihilism, Works!, will open on First Friday, November 2 from 7pm to 10pm. The exhibition runs November 2 through 17, 2012. Each member of Works is invited to place one work of art into the exhibition, your single piece must be ready-to-hang (framed/mounted with all hanging hardware). We must limit wall pieces to 24 inches in width by 24 inches in height; and sculptural pieces to 24 inches in width and depth—space is tight, so please consider a smaller work. Include instructions for suspensions or any other special display requests. please also provide a resume and artist statement.

All work must be hand-delivered to 365 South Market Street (Market Street edge of SJ Convention Center building) on Sunday, October 21, or Saturday, October 27, from noon to 4pm. The exhibition entry form and exhibition agreement can be completed when you deliver your work or can be downloaded below to fill out and bring with you.

Volunteers are needed for installation and gallery sitting—please sign up to help when you deliver your work!
