Bringing together music, dance, and video, collaborative artists Patrice Scanlon, Melissa Anast-Taylor, and Aki Shinomiya present a compelling program of multimedia performances.

Scanlon, a composer, designed musical software that communicates with a video camera: as dancer and choreographer Melissa Anast-Taylor crosses the stage, her movements trigger hundreds of Scanlon's musical phrases in real-time. In this way, Scanlon and Anast-Taylor work collaboratively, creating both dance and a "live" musical score.

Meanwhile, experimental video artist Aki Shinomiya employs her real-time video manipulation process which, when paired with Scanlon and Anast-Taylor's improvised electronic music, creates a dazzling effect.

Sometimes hypnotic and often inspired, these performances transcend the trappings of mere "high-tech art" and evolve into poetic expressions of motion, light, and sound.

Please call WORKS/ San Jose at (408) 295-8378 for more information. Parking is available across the street in parking deck on North 3rd.

WORKS/ San Jose is a non-profit, contemporary art and performance Center dedicated to community involvement and the exploration of the artistic experience.
