Works/San
José Announces New Executive Director San Jose, February 13, 2007 --- Works/San José announced today that its Board of Directors has hired a new Executive Director, Erin Cizan. “This is going to be an exciting and dramatic year,” said Erin (Pannu) Cizan, a past President of the Board of Directors. “I am so thrilled to be a part of the team, shepherding Works into this new phase.” With a history of being a volunteer- and artist-led arts organization, having an Executive Director is historic for the 30-year-old nonprofit: “a testament to the commitment of its board, volunteers, and membership,” adds Cizan. Tony May, Art Professor Emeritus, San Jose State University and co-founder of Works/San José, when told of the announcement, had this reaction: “Hallelujah! WORKS lives!” May noted that since WORKS’ beginning it has miraculously survived four building relocations with only one paid part-time coordinator position. . “Works has relied on the energy and dedication of countless volunteers, a testimonial to the important niche it continues to occupy in the local art community,” said May. He believes that this new leadership position is a positive step toward furthering the growth of the organization. The new gallery space on South First Street will re-open on Friday, April 13 and will also mark Works’ 30th anniversary. Works/San José is dedicated to being a community that showcases a diverse array of visual and performing artists. Works had been at the historic Sperry Flour Building on North Third Street for the past 10 years. May 4 will be Works’ first First Friday in its new location in the SOFA neighborhood at 451 South First Street, in downtown San José. “The Works board is currently forming a transitional team to grow the organization in terms of programming, capacity, community integration and accessibility,” continued Erin Cizan. “I, like many others who have served on this board, feel personally invested in Works and its continued success. I am very honored to have been asked to be Works’ first Executive Director.” # # # About Works/San José: Works/San José is “the” place for the South Bay community to experiment, exhibit, and engage. Works is a community non-profit art and performance center showcasing the ideas, images, and artists that challenge the boundaries of contemporary art and interact to expand the scope of cultural and artistic experience. Works is member-supported, and is funded in part by the City of San José, Arts Council Silicon Valley and Community Foundation Silicon Valley. # # # |
