Works/San Jose is proud to present ex_XX: post position, a unique exhibition that surveys 20 years of work developed by artists in San Jose State University’s CADRE Laboratory for New Media. (CADRE: Computers in Art, Design, Research and Education.)

To celebrate CADRE's 20 years of research and work within new media arts culture, Works/San Jose is bringing together, for the first time in one space, twenty-one CADRE artists - those who are seasoned and established as well as some recent graduates. Artists include John Bruneau, Jason Challas, Chris Cryer, Kristin Cully, Joe DeLappe, Steve Durie, Ben Eakins, Jan Ekenberg, Jennifer Henderson, Lisa Jevbratt, Cassandra Jordan, Sheila Malone, Matt Mays, James Morgan, Kanako Ota, Inna Razumova, Shona Reed, Anne Marie Schleiner, Brett Stalbaum with Paula Poole, Mike Weisert, and Geri Wittig.

Curated by Sheila Malone and Jason Challas, ex_XX:: post position reveals the tracking and critiquing of contemporary culture and mass media. The satiric, serious, and inquisitive nature of CADRE graduates sets the stage for innovative and controversial works that address ideas surrounding data systems, data mining, terrorism in America, culture wars, theory as art, database immersion and internet play. ex_XX:: post position responds to the ever-growing mapped world described through each artist's unique approach to position.

The show opens at Works/San Jose on Tuesday, July 18th, with an Opening Reception on Friday, July 21st at 7:00 p.m. In addition, Works is hosting a special event night, featuring performances by artists featured in the show, on Tuesday, August 8th from 7pm - midnight.

About WORKS/San Jose:
Works/San Jose is a non-profit contemporary art and performance center dedicated to presenting the ideas, images, and performances of emerging artists and curators who have limited access to exhibition opportunities. Works provides a place to challenge and expand the established opinions of art and art making, while supporting activities that foster communication between artists, curators and the public that strengthen cross-cultural understanding, validate identity, and enhance the quality of life in San Jose. For nearly thirty years, our spirited team of volunteers with the assistance of our part time gallery coordinator (Works' only paid staff member), has annually produced ten visual art exhibitions, a calendar of music and performance art events, and an array of community art services.
