José Announces Gallery Moving San Jose, December 12, 2006 --- Works/San José announced today that the gallery will be moving to the SOFA neighborhood. After many months of looking for a new home, Works will be joining other museums and galleries, along with nightclubs and restaurants. In an agreement with the San José Redevelopment Agency and Colliers International, Works/San José announced that its new address in SOFA (South of First Street area) would be 451 South First Street, in a space that perfectly suits the needs of an art gallery. “Works is known for presenting diverse and unexpected exhibitions, so we are thrilled to be joining the burgeoning creative community of the SOFA district,” said Erin Pannu, President of the Board of Directors of Works/San José. “SOFA has a long history of being a vibrant home of alternative, creative and eclectic community,” said Tamara Alvarado, Executive Director of MACLA, whose gallery and cultural center is in SOFA. “I am really excited to welcome Works to SOFA. They fulfill another need in our diverse arts neighborhood.” Works/San José will be celebrating its 30th anniversary as a nonprofit that is dedicated to being a community that showcases a diverse array of visual and performing artists. Works had been at the historic Sperry Flour Building on North Third Street for the past 10 years. “The 4,900-square-foot space is the ideal location for the art and cultural organization,” said Mark Zamudio, representative of the owners of the property. The San José Redevelopment Agency has been supportive of Works/San José throughout its history. “Investing in the arts furthers our Agency's commitment to cultural and educational programs,” said Harry Mavrogenes, San José Redevelopment Agency Executive Director. “Partnering with arts groups gives us an opportunity to enrich future generations, and at the same time, position Downtown San José as a distinctive creative and cultural center.” # # # About Works/San José: Works/San José is “the” place for the South Bay community to experiment, exhibit, and engage.
