Works/San Jose gets a visit from Windmill Springs School

Twenty-eight 7th and 8th graders from Windmill Springs School visited Works/San José on Thursday February 3rd 2005. When the students arrived, Gallery Coordinator Lis Dubois gave them an art docent tour of the current show, Passing Through. After the docent tour, Youth and Community Outreach Coordinator Jean Skamra led the students in a demonstration on making ‘found art’ sculpture.

Each student created his or her own sculpture using different materials like wood, string, plastic, and metal. Some of the creations took on a realistic look, while others were purely abstract. After the students finished their sculptures, they were able to take them back to their school. Their visit was made possible through the City of San Jose’s Arts Express Program.
