artist in residence program overview/how to apply For three (3) months the selected artist will have use of a non-living studio space at no cost to them and will receive a modest honorarium. Works' Artist-in-Residence program has enabled emerging and under-represented artists, who have demonstrated a professional commitment to their work and are at a critical juncture in their development access to hard-to-find studio space and exposure to the local arts community. Launched in 1999, four Bay Area artists are awarded a studio for three months. Independent jurors make each year’s selection. Participating artists are required to host a community outreach activity. Toward the end of the artists’ residency, Works hosts an open studio in conjunction with the reception for the main and P2 Installation Space. Works welcomes all visual, performance, new media, installation, and interdisciplinary artists, however there are certain restrictions on chemicals and equipment due to the proximity of our gallery (Only Nontoxic, Non-combustible mediums, solvents & fixatives, no VOC's, kilns, and welding). No power tools or loud music during gallery hours. All work created during the residency will be the property of the Artist. Applicants must be over 18 years of age, not a student, and reside within 60 miles of San José. Download application |
